New Citizen

The County Clerk-Recorder-Registrar of Voters encourages United States Citizens to register to vote and actively take part in choosing their government representatives by voting for the candidates/issues of their choice.

Citizens who are at least 18 years of age at the time of the next election are eligible to register to vote. Registration must take place at least 15 days before the election. Voters must also reregister by the 15-day deadline before an election to change their address, name or political party.

After their naturalization swearing-in ceremony, new citizens may complete the registration-by-mail form provided to them and mail it to the County Clerk-Recorder-Registrar of Voters. After receipt by the Registrar, they will receive a postcard within a few weeks informing them of their eligibility to vote.

Persons who become citizens after the voter registration deadline (15 days before each election) may register and vote at the Registrar’s Office between the 15th and 7th day before the upcoming election. Such new citizen late registrants must present a certificate of Naturalization and declare they have established residency in the County.
